10:00am Remembrance Sunday
Remembrance Sunday

This service is live in church, but it will be streamed so if you are unable to attend you can view it online. Now most of the words will also appear when you view the service on line so it will be easier to follow the service.
However, below are the day’s readings plus the intercessions for reference, as there will not appear on screen.
First reading: 1 Thessalonians 4: 13 – 18
Second reading: Matthew 25: 1 – 13
At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise. 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. 4 The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. 5 The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
6 “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’
7 “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’
9 “‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’
10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.
11 “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’
12 “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’
13 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
Intercessions
Heavenly father, in every age you have raised up holy men and women to reflect the light of Christ, and to teach us the way of holiness. We praise you for the example we have been given to follow – through the disciples and Apostles, through the early Church and its life beyond. As we look to the future, let us build on our heritage, and in particular, the life and vision of all the Saints and all those who have worshipped here before us, may we walk wisely in their examples of faith, dedication, worship, and love, and as we call to you from our hearts, help us hear your call to us.
Lord in Your mercy. Hear our prayer.
We ask for your blessings on the work being carried out in our United Benefice here at All Saints’ and at St James’ Altham. We pray for Peter and Sarah, and all who lead us in worship.
We remember the modern-day saints that we see showing God’s love through works of charity, self-sacrifice, humility and love, and for those working in areas of desperate need, caring for the sick and dying, and giving their own lives in service, we pray for those who will come after us, all who will come to faith, offering their service, and life to Christ.
Lord in Your mercy. Hear our prayer.
We pray for the Church to be a beacon of hope throughout the world, reminding us of our responsibility to care for and protect our planet. We especially pray for all world leaders who will meet in nine days’ time in Turkey for COP31, focusing on global climate action and sustainable development. Open their minds, their eyes and their ears to the many that call for change, to ensure the preservation of our wonderful planet.
We now bring to you the sufferings of all humankind, the despair of the homeless, the pains of the sick and the injured, the helplessness of the aged and the frail.
Lord in this time of financial turbulence we pray for economies around the world. We think of our own country and all who are struggling with day-to-day existence, all who are worrying about paying their mortgages, rent, food or heating bills and we pray for all who are in any kind of need. Comfort and heal them according to their needs and may they draw strength that you are with them in all their troubles.
In these anxious times we long for all nations to be wisely governed and we pray for an end to the violence of war. We ask you to bless those who are seeking peace agreements, never to give up, praying especially for Ukraine and Gaza.
Lord in Your mercy. Hear our prayer.
We now pray for those in need within our own families and amongst our friends. Jesus our healer, we place into your hands those who are ill, ease their pain, comfort them in their distress, help them to cope with their sickness and the treatment they receive. Be with those who care for them and fill them with the warmth of your love now and always.
We include in our prayers those who cannot be with us today, remembering anyone we know that needs our prayers at this time.
We especially remember … (sick).
Lord in Your mercy. Hear our prayer.
Loving Lord, we pray for those who have died, and we pray especially for those who have lost friends and family recently, sometime ago, or whose anniversary falls at this time of year. Let them know that they can come close to those they love, as we bring them to you in our prayers, and we thank you for the opportunity in the life of our church to offer support and comfort to the bereaved.
We think especially of those who will be remembered at our Memorial service this afternoon.
In our prayers today we remember the families and friends of ……………(departed) and all those who have died in the high speed train disaster in Spain.
Lord in Your mercy. Hear our prayer.
Heavenly father, we thank you for the example of all the Saints, help us to follow in their footsteps with courage and hope, and as we leave this service today, we go with the knowledge that you will be with us as we seek to serve you now and in the future.
Merciful Father, Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.
